The North Midlands Older LGBT Group (OLGBT) is taking part in a new local initiative called Discover Digital.  This project aims to boost “Digital Inclusion” in Stoke-on-Trent by helping people make the best use of the internet.  For OLGBT this will include

  • Promoting information about Discover Digital workshops and other learning opportunities for digital skills and online safety
  • Opportunities to apply for small grants to buy equipment, improve internet access or other things needed to get online
  • Peer research to identify the barriers people face with digital inclusion and what is needed to overcome them
  • Group and individual support to help OLGBT members learn together and support each other. Some OLGBT members may become “Digital Champions” to support others less confident than themselves.
  • Creating a Discover Digital section on our website with useful resources.
  • Facilitating a WhatsApp group to support our learners

Discover Digital is funded by the UK Government Community Renewal Fund distributed through Stoke-on-Trent City Council. The project is led by Staffordshire University and  delivered in partnership with: Wavemaker, Stoke-North Big Local, VAST, WEA, Caudwell Children, Community Foundation for Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent College, YMCA, Dove Service, Beth Johnston Foundation and Keele University.

The Beth Johnson Foundation will be working with OLGBT to offer the support you need to get started on improving your digital skills.  Or if you are already confident with digital skills please consider becoming an OLGBT Digital Champion to support someone else in our OLGBT group who is learning.
