We’ve been busy despite lockdown
Flowers to brighten up lockdown – from Maurice
After another month in lockdown, it is most encouraging the way the group has pulled together to support each other as well as reaching out to others who are facing the same challenges of isolation and loneliness. Nowhere has this been clearer than at our Monday evening Zoom meetings. Throughout January, members and non-members alike have participated in frank and open discussions on a wide range of topics. We have benefited considerably from shared wisdom; checking up on health issues including COVID vaccinations; exchanging useful tips , and lots more. The one thing you can be sure of…we always have a good laugh. Some jokes may be less than politically correct…but the general tone of conviviality and friendship is a weekly tonic that is priceless.
The final dance workshop of the OLGBT MIND-MATTERS Project was given by inspirational Rachael Lines on Wednesday 13 January. We have covered a wide range of steps and movements that have stretched our bodies. We have also created pieces that pushed the borders of our imagination beyond all expectations. Without doubt, the benefits to all participants’ physical & mental health and wellbeing has been immeasurable. We hope that further sessions can be planned when funding allows.
Quilling Workshop Wednesday 27 January
Highly talented Parul Gupta gave the quilling workshop participants a step by step tuition that overcame any fears they might have had to produce rewarding, beautiful creations. The technique is simple…but requires considerable patience to make the small paper coils that can then be used to construct larger shapes. These can be used to make elegant, bespoke cards for all occasions as well as a host of other possibilities. Below are just a couple of examples. Please send in photos of your creations so we can build up an online gallery.

Brazilian Movement & Rhythm
Each Tuesday morning throughout January, Mika de Olveira, the extremely motivating Director of Art Brazil, put us through our paces in learning steps and rhythmic patterns associated with different types of Brazilian Carnival dances. We have learned basic styles like Samba, Samba Reggae and Maracatu as well as social dances such as Jongo and Xote. Every session is stand-alone, which means that you can join the workshops at any time. We have workshops right through until March, so feel free to join our lively group 11.00 – 12.00 Tuesday mornings.
We are just over halfway through the COVID Project – No worries if you haven’t signed up for workshops there is still time…and please pass on the invitation to anyone you know who might appreciate a bit of human contact. Details of the project below
We are delighted at the number of people who have already signed up to the project ..You can still take part and don’t be afraid to invite a friend who might appreciate doing something creative… just email Maurice at email@example.com
