January 2022
Activities in JANUARY 2022
One of the highlights of January was our trip to the New Vic Theatre to see Beauty and the Beast. This was a fascinating retelling of a classic tale by award winning writer and theatre director Theresa Heskins. Brought to life by a multi talented cast and a gifted team of creatives, Theresa’s magical production enchanted and delighted every single one of our members and friends who had the good fortune to see it. At the same time, it was a joy for members of the group to actually come together and share such a magical experience. Even though we were still wearing masks…it seemed we had taken a significant step towards a return to something like normality.
Fenton Town Hall In-Person Meeting
Our face to face meeting in Fenton Town Hall cafe was well attended. Apart from the pleasure of being able to talk directly to people, we also took the opportunity to discuss what to do next once the ceramics project set up by Deborah Rogers of the Cultural Sisters comes to an end. There was a resounding enthusiasm for more creative activities and outings, similar to those in the two year project funded by the People’s Health Trust in 2017-2019. You can be sure our dynamic board of trustees will work hard to turn these wishes into reality.
LGBTQI + Mental Health Project – Reclaim
Set up by Deborah Rogers of the Cultural Sisters, the project engages LGBT+ people from different generations in two separate initiatives. We will be working with inspirational Sarah Fraser on a programme of creative ceramics workshops at BCB Studio Spode Works, Elenora Street, Stoke. Sessions are on Friday mornings 10.30 – 12.30 am commencing Friday 18 February with an introductory session; then each Friday from 4 February to 1 April. Contact Maurice if you are interested and haven’t already signed up. .
Community Health Champions
Thanks to the hard work of our Vice Chair, Andrew, the charity has joined the community of local Community Health Champions. Andrew, assisted by John (Windy) will ensure that health and wellbeing information from the NHS and local healthcare providers is promoted on a regular basis. Look out for messages linked with the logo below.

Care Navigators are There to Help
Doctors are urging patients to show understanding to receptionists when they call their GP practice. Most receptionists in doctor’s surgeries have been trained to be “care navigators”. This means they can help to get you seen by the most appropriate person.
