How We Are Coping with Lockdown in May
Apart from binge-watching box sets on Netflix and other media platforms, some of our members have taken advantage of the record-breaking sunny May to engage with nature. Increased wildlife activity has been observed in people’s gardens with newly fledged birds flocking to feeders and finding out the hard way that they can’t fly through glass windows.
Below are just a few of many shared images of beautiful flowering plants in members’ gardens taken in May

Although we haven’t had a proper meeting since March the group has kept in touch through weekly meetings on Zoom. Despite technical issues, it has been wonderful to chatch up with members on a Monday evening and share our lockdown stories. As a full member of the LGBT Consortium, we have been given a Zoom licence which will allow us to have longer meetings.
Secret Stars Project (ESSENCE)
ESSENCE is a public art installation commissioned by Festival Stoke for Art Street 2020 and created by Richard Redwin and Jodie Gibson. It features 12 large 3D sculpted faces made from reclaimed and recycled materials that light-up and form an art trail around Stoke town centre. The project celebrates twelve people from Stoke-on-Trent who are making a positive contribution to their community… secret stars who are putting others before themselves but as yet, have not been widely recognised for their positive actions.
One of the secret stars is Angie
Angie is a stalwart member of the North Midlands LGBT Older group. She has served as Treasurer for the charity for many years, as well as offering person-to-person and online support. Angie feels a positive community is one where people learn to get along and do things together, through which friendships can be formed between different types of people.
You can still see the sculptures in Stoke – Angie’s is in front of the Spode Rose Garden
Whilst all our social activites are currently suspended, we are staying in touch with Zoom meetings each Monday at 18.00. These will continue for the foreseeable future…you are welcome to join us.
