April Meeting
We had a lively exchange of banter and not a few laughs at a well attended meeting which began with some ‘dementia friendly’ warm up exercises and a rendition of Downtown with everyone joining in on the chorus. Maurice pointed out that we are a registered dementia friendly group…but so far few people have watched the videos aimed at raising awareness. Please spare a moment to visit Dementia Friends videos for organisations Click on the highlighted text…you will then need our entry code: LGBT123
Deborah joined us for a brain-storming exercise of ideas for a People’s Health Trust funding bid for a 2 year long project…people came up with a wide range of suggestions for social activities, creative workshops, and places to visit. From a surprising array of names put forward for the project, the one finally selected was: ‘OLGBT Wellbeing.’ The data collected on flip-chart sheets will be used to support our Stage 2 application. Yes! We have been successful in passing the hurdle of Stage 1.
A new LGBT Choir had its first rehearsal with its director Alixander on Wednesday 17 April…a group of enthusiastic male voices came together at Gossip in Hanley to work through the audition piece ‘Downtown’ followed by Elton John’s ‘Can’t You Feel the Love Tonight’. Carl, the manager of Gossip said that he hoped that the venue would used by all sectors of the LGBT community. The outdoor garden on the ground floor and the roof-top garden offer spaces away from the loud music of the dance floor.
Stoke Pride is on Saturday 24 June. For the first time, it will be in HANLEY PARK. Let us know if you would like to help with our stall. Prizes for the tombola are welcome…please bring them to our May meeting or give them to Stephen, Angie or Maurice.
