Activities in April
Bread Making Workshops
So far we have completed two bread making workshops with Susan of Bread in Common…which is a real bread bakery run by B Arts
in Stoke-on-Trent, based at 72 Hartshill Road
in Stoke. Susan is an inspirational teacher. In our first session we learned how to make bread dough for a basic loaf, a quick proofing mix for Italian Focaccia Bread which was ready to eat at lunchtime, and a richer dough for fruit teacakes which were delicious.
In our second session, with the success of our first efforts we had more confidence to tackle making breakfast muffins, a walnut and raisin courante and Chelsea Buns. Although some of us made mistakes with measuring and at least one person had a very sticky moment, we again produced a splendid array of baked items of which were rightly proud. Another added bonus is a shared lunch, freshly prepared and using some of the bread we have baked. Fantastic!
Final Printmaking Workshop
Because of the break-in and burglary at the Art Stop, the last Printmaking Workshop was rescheduled to Wednesday 11 April. It is gratifying to find that we have acquired skills in the workshops with Deborah, so that in the final session, we felt more confident handling the etching tools and the plastic pieces that served as printing templates. All participants managed to produce at least two prints with a variety of colours.
There were no guest speakers this month, so we were able to reflect on what we have achieved with the OLGBT Wellbeing Project so far and to plan for the next few months.
We are grateful to Trevor and Stephen for a set of classy ring binders to use as scrap books for the project. Items collected over the first six months were transferred. Because the binders are bigger, we can include more items and display material more effectively.
After examining photos of the Ceramic and Printmaking workshops along with shots of the first Bread Making workshop, the group made a selection to be printed for a display at Stoke Pride on Saturday 16 June. The Maymeeting, will be devoted to preparing material for Pride.
Please note our May meeting is a week earlier than usual because of the May Bank Holiday
