Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) was an alliance of lesbians and gay men who supported the National Union of Mineworkers during the year-long strike of 1984–1985. The two founder members of the movement were Mark Ashton and Mike Jackson. Mike Jackson graduated from Keele University in 1980, he founded the North Staffs Gay Switchboard while he was a student there and then went on to become co-founder of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) – immortalised in the award-winning film ‘Pride’.
